Chicago Probation Violations
Probation is a sentence ordered by a judge instead of, or sometime in addition to, serving time in jail. Probation allows a convicted individual to live in the community for a specified period of time, sometimes under the supervision of a probation officer. Common terms of probation an individual could have to comply with include reporting to a probation officer, paying fines or restitution, performing community service, taking random drug tests, not having any contact with the victim and avoiding arrest for a new offense.
However, if an individual violates any conditions of their probation, for example if they didn't complete their community service assignment, they neglected to pay a court fine or they were arrested for a new offense, that individual runs the risk of the court removing their probation. The individual could also be sentenced to jail for several years, depending upon the severity of the offense for which they were on probation.
